Why This Michigan Weekend Getaway Is Worth the Trip

There's something special about leaving the interstate behind and discovering the countryside at a slower pace.

Michigan's Thumb is a landscape of working farms, beautiful barns, winding backroads, open fields, and small towns where rural traditions are still part of everyday life.

This isn't a crowded bus tour or a typical hotel weekend. It's a small-group experience designed for couples, friends, animal lovers, and travelers who appreciate beautiful scenery and authentic places.

Your weekend combines privately arranged agricultural visits, time along the Lake Huron shoreline, and a Saturday evening of live music—all with two nights of lodging already arranged.

Meet the Highland Cattle on a Michigan Farm Getaway

Imagine standing in the Michigan countryside, watching magnificent Highland cattle with their long, shaggy coats and unmistakable horns.

They're the kind of animals that make you stop, smile, and reach for your camera.

Our Friday agricultural tour includes two specially arranged visits to private working farms near Ubly. Along with viewing and photographing Highland cattle, guests will have opportunities to discover beef cattle, goats, horses, and the everyday character of Michigan farm country.

At designated areas, guests may interact with certain farm animals under the owners' guidance. Highland cattle are for viewing and photography only, with no petting or feeding.

These visits are arranged especially for our small group. Exact farm locations are shared with confirmed guests.

Discover Michigan Agritourism Beyond the Usual Tourist Stops

The countryside is part of the experience. Think rustic barns, rural landscapes, wind turbines rising above the fields, and scenic roads that remind you how much there is to discover beyond Michigan's larger cities.

You don't need to be a photographer to enjoy it. Bring a camera, bring a friend, or simply enjoy being somewhere different.

A Lake Huron Sunset Makes This Michigan Weekend Getaway Special

Friday afternoon leads us toward the shoreline at Port Crescent State Park, where the wide-open beauty of Lake Huron provides a memorable end to our countryside tour.

We'll plan to arrive around 4 PM, giving everyone time to enjoy the beach, lakeshore scenery, and the changing light of a late-November afternoon.

Port Crescent is also known for its designated Dark Sky Preserve, making it a remarkable place to appreciate Michigan's natural landscape.

Afterward, guests can enjoy an optional group dinner in the Port Austin area. Friday dinner is purchased individually.

It's the kind of evening that reminds you a getaway doesn't have to be complicated to feel extraordinary.
